An important part of a medieval man’s equipment was a satchel worn on the belt. In such a satchel a man carried all the most important items that he had to have with him at all times.
Pottery is one of the oldest crafts. The first objects made of baked clay date back to prehistoric times.
The craft of tailoring has been with us ever since mankind crawled out of caves and tried to observe what the world has given so that it would warm up somehow. In the guilds, tailoring as a craft has only been around since the 15th century.
Coinage in Slovakia has its origins in the 5th and 4th centuries BC, when Celtic tribes immigrated to our territory from the near-Alpine region. At the end of the 2nd century BC, an important Celtic centre was located in the area of today’s Bratislava.
Until the invention of the printing press, books were written by hand. This tradition continued until the 16th century. It took a very long time for a scribe to be trained and schooled in his craft, which was coupled with his many years of service in various institutions.
Candle making, as an independent craft organised in a guild, has been known only since the beginning of the 15th century in the territory of today’s Germany. It was one of the richer crafts – both in terms of cost and price of products.
The lathe is a simple but ingenious tool that allows you to transform a piece of wood into useful tools or works of art in a matter of minutes and without much effort.
